Congratulations to our collaborators at the Fakulní Nemocnice Kralovské Vinohrady (Charles University) in Prague, Czech Republic, and thank you for your dedication to getting the study up and running. We are optimistic about starting up at several other sites in the Czech Republic in the near future.
The DePPaRT Study may also soon be expanding into the UK. Collaborators Dale Gardiner, Dan Harvey, and their dedicated team of investigators submitted a research grant proposal to the National Institute for Health Research to fund patient enrolment and data collection at 6 major intensive care units across Britain. The UK DePPaRT study will focus on developing a tool to help physicians better predict how long it will take someone to die after the withdrawal of life sustaining therapy and therefore which patients are the best candidates for donation after the circulatory determination of death.
Back in Canada, the Ottawa Hospital Civic campus is now live for enrolment, bringing the total number of active sites to 3 (2 adult, 1 paediatric).
